Reiwa no Koharu (with outer box)
Reiwa no Koharu (with outer box)
The Kagami mochi, a New Year decoration to welcome the new year god, is expressed with the softness that only high-quality cypress wood can provide. It is said that in the past, samurai families shared red and white Kagami mochi, which were considered to bring good luck, and remnants of this tradition can still be seen in modern-day Ishikawa Prefecture.
The source of the name "Reiwa" is the preface to 32 plum blossom poems in the Manyoshu.
"It is the favorite month of New Year, the air is fresh and the breeze is soft. The plum blossoms are blooming white like the face powder that a beautiful woman wears in front of the mirror, and the orchids are giving off a fragrance like adorning incense" (a translation from "Complete Translation of the Manyoshu, with annotated original text" in a 1984 book by Nakanishi Susumu, who is thought to have invented "Reiwa"). The plum blossoms, which are the first to bloom in the harsh cold, give a sense of strength and vitality.
These white plum blossoms are carefully handcrafted on moss-covered branches.
In addition, the paulownia box can be turned over to become a Sanpo (three-tiered storage unit), and can store all of your tools inside, making it highly functional. It is especially recommended for offices and hospitals where perishable goods cannot be stored.
*Kagami mochi is unpainted to show off the beauty of the wood. Therefore, cypress oil, which has antibacterial properties, may seep out.
