Niwa of O-tana
The client inherited this land from their ancestors.
The site originally contained ancient trees - Kurogane holly, cherry, and golden osmanthus – along with retaining walls, stone-lanterns, and a well-curb.
These were preserved as the land's memory while we carefully re-edited this place.
For the client who enjoys cooking and baking, the garden was planted primarily with fruit-bearing trees and those rich in fragrance.
This couple does not merely admire the garden; they work within it, finding joy in its usefulness.
Their way of life is precisely the ideal we envision: “a life where people become part of the landscape”.
We hope such living Niwa will continue to spread through urban spaces.
